Slide Your Left Hand to the Right (A Little)
November 2, 2009 9:14 PM
This jaunty ditty features my wife singing lead and
chococat playing the ukelele. I mostly just stand around.
This is the first original song that I've been able to get my wife to sing lead on. (She can previously be heard on our cover of Magnetic Field's "
The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side".) Yay!
It was conceived as a ukelele song, but no one here actually plays one, so I enlisted the help of MeFi's own chococat; he went above and beyond my hopes and dreams, providing the wonderful stereo uke track heard here. Thanks, chococat!
(Did you know that there's a whole page of musicians willing to collaborate over on the MeFi wiki?
Check it out!)
I play percussion (ride & splash cymbals & vibraphone) and
melodica and also my venerable
Casio SK-5.
(Get Flash to see the track player.)

Blink once for yes, twice for no
If you’re sleeping I should go
A pile of blankets like a pile of snow
Are you warmer now?
Do you remember that old joke?
I’d tell it again but I think I’d choke
I’ve learned a lot since last you woke
And I can show you now
Slide your left hand to the right a little
-- A little more
-- -- a little more
I can find a quiet space
And help you hold your hand in place
We’ll ignore in every case
The cadence and the key
Slide your left hand to the right a little
-- A little more
-- -- a little more
Everyone knows where we go
We hope the tempo will stay slow
Slide your left hand to the right a little
-- A little more
-- -- a little more
