Oh Balloon Boy
November 6, 2009 2:11 PM
This is my messy pop-rock interpretation of mikepop's excellent parodic adaptation of the old murder ballad "Darling Corey", which this sounds basically nothing like.
Mix is a mess, everything recorded not-particularly-closely-miked in my big bare basement so there's a whole lot of room in everything and I couldn't figure out how to make it behave.
Definitely need to look into more properly miking my drums, since this whole stereo room mic setup makes it just about impossible to control the splash of the cymbals. Rolled out electric bass for the first time in a while to try and give the rhythm section a little more thump.

Wow, totally different but still terrific! I am happy to be a part of it.

This kind of pop-rock setting seems particularly appropriate for your voice, cortex. Nice job on those vox!

Hey, fuck making it behave! This is genuine lo-fi, not lo-fi from a band who recorded with great mics in a pro studio and then tried to make it sound "lo-fi". This is lo-fi like Guided By Voices back when Pollard and company actually recorded in his basement in Dayton.

This is sweet - I agree, your voice fits this really well, and whatever kind of sloppy pop-rock this is, it's a good kind.

I didn't think I could possibly like anything about the balloon boy. I was wrong.
I'm playing this loudly in my garage and it sounds great!
