Cendricero

Definitely not in English.

A friend and I wrote this song exactly ten years ago today. We remember the date because I wrote down the lyrics for him - which are in a made-up language - and he demanded that I wrote a Spanish translation after the lyrics. I did, and I closed with the date and the place we were in, Xilitla, April 16, 2000.

He sung the lyrics in the made-up language, then the lyrics in Spanish and then he sung the "byline." We recorded that early version with one of those journalist tape recorders. It was out of this song that we decided to make a band and now that it's the tenth anniversary of that band, we decided to record a better version of the song.

Always great to hear a new micayetoca tune. This one feels great, man, goes down real nice. The harmony vocals are sweet, the recording sounds good, the feel is superbly mellow. Nothing to not like!

Who's playing what here?

Thanks man, if things sound better now it might be because I recently discovered life beyond the first take. Apparently, if you try a few times and stop when you make mistakes and record a better take, the result in the end is much more listenable. Who would have thunk?

Here I'm playing everything with strings (a requinto jarocho - which you can identify in the recording because it has nylon strings-, a tres cubano - steel strings - and a leona jarocha, which is that bassy sound. Then another friend is singing and a friend from Colombia did the percussion track. I'm glad you liked it. This I think is my favorite song by us and it kinda sparked a lot of good things in my life.

Ha, this KICKS ASS. In addition to being really great music, it makes me want to dance. That's not silly is it? It definitely has a sexy groove.

I can't wait to play this for my esposa and give her "the look".

Awesome song micayetoca and friends!

Oooohh Yeeaaahhh. Eso. I love how this sways. You never want it to end. I have a feeling I'm going to play this over and over for the next couple weeks in a futile attempt to get it out of my system.

Really nice recording. Everything gels so nicely, especially considering you are all recording your tracks in different places, if I'm understanding the situation correctly.
Your strings are great as usual, love the vocals and the percussion is really flawless and understated.

Thanks man! When we first made it, and I heard my friend singing like that, I thought we have to make a band. This song was a turning point in my life.

Yeah, we did it from different countries, and there are some "aggravating" factors: I recorded first and I didn't have any rhythm track that was similar in any way, so I ended up using a default dance rhythm from the portastudio. After I had finished the strings and sent them to the singer, our friend in Colombia (our man in Colombia!) did the percussion track, and I added it, so the only one who actually heard something similar to the final result while recording, was the singer.

Now we have a couple of DJ friends who are making a remixes of the song. I can't wait to hear that.

You guys who have talent can afford to do that. Your first takes sound like my 15th, with digital correction and lots of make up.

I'm really curious to see that they do with it. Perhaps I'll post it here in a new twist of that "evolution of a song" series.
