MeFi Music Challenge for September
September 2, 2010 4:08 PM
This months challenge, TRANSPO, is combination of "favorite car" and "car culture" ideas from bonefish and Karlos the Jackal.
Transpo can be any or all of the following: Road trip songs, songs about cars, trucks, bikes, scooters, 18 wheelers, music that sounds like those road machines and anything that gets your gears turning and rubber burning. Of course the tags are mefimusicchallenge and transpo.
Feel free to load this thread up with challenge ideas and/or any other ideas to enhance our ongoing challenge fun.

However, this is my favorite (if you ignore the hammy video).
Did not post Prince's 'Little Red Corvette' for a reason.

And I have to say, the idea of a song about a lousy unsongworthy car really tickles me. it's just me and you / my daihatsu and etc.

Quicksand by Dinosaur Jr is pretty much that... a song about the existential crisis brought on by the demise of his station wagon. "Can't face the thoughts no wheels will bring... I gotta go..."

I always wanted to hear the lyrics to "Hot Rod Lincoln" or "No Money Day" rapped old skool like Run DMC. Somebody do that, please.

Well, the title of the challenge seems to suggest it's about all forms of transport, but you guys are fixated with cars. What ever happened to other means of transportation? (and yeah, the video doesn't emphasize it enough, but the song is about a jenny, which I just learned it's how you call a "female donkey".)

Can't believe that no-one has linked this. Hats off to unSane for linking to a track by the inimitable, irreplaceable and utterly fabulous The Fall. For those unfamiliar with this most English of English bands check out this and this and this and this and this. "I drank a jar of coffeeeeeee, and then I took some of these". Has your head-a expanded-a??

micayetoca, for that being a song about a burrita or jenny, it sure was seksi. FWIW I'd take a jenny over a corvette any day. (Unless it was a really old corvette.)

The Ultimate List of Car Songs!.
But, they've missed one of my personal favorites, Richard Thompson's "MGB-GT". The man loves his cars. Lyrics.
Gotta love Little Deuce Coup, though.

When I think of songs about cars and travel Cake immediately comes to mind.
Stickshifts and Safetybelts
Race Car Ya-Yas
The Distance
Carbon Monoxide
And then other songs have car references.
Short Skirt, Long Jacket
She wants a car with a cup holder armrest. She wants a car that will get her there. She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen. She's trading her MG for a white, Chrysler Lebaron.
