Muse (sketch)

June 27, 2012 11:15 AM

Just a lazy Sunday sketch of a track. Melodic techno.

Not sure if this warrants being expanded into a full song. I'd definitely need to add a few more instruments to get some variety in there.

Written in Synapse Orion.

This is great. I'm trying to learn more about how this sort of music is structured and created, and I keep getting surprised. I have no idea what Synapse Orion means.

Thanks Elmore.

Orion is a music production package by Synapse Audio. It's not a major player in the market (being developed by just one programmer), but it is relatively well known for having superb audio quality and built-in FX.

Orion basically sends your notes to VSTi's (virtual instruments), and then routes the output of those instruments into its native mixing and mastering console. VST is a standard instrument format, so there are literally tens of thousands available, ranging from simple analog tone generators and drum machines to huge multi-gigabyte orchestra libraries and complex matrix synthesizers.

I like it a lot, but I've never tried any of the competition. I've got a soft spot for underdog software packages ...
