Man, you are right up in the levels, distorting things with a lot of peaking, in a way that feels like it could pretty well in a fuller dirty rocky mix but as is feels just a little jarring with the spartan arrangement. Was that an intentional experiment or more just an artifact of being in a sort of "I'm in a mood, I'm fuckin' recording this" place at the time?

Yeah, I was just recording really fast with the typical "fuck it I'll fix it in the mix" crap that never works out right in the end.

It was all recorded into the webcam mic on a mac laptop, so any nuance was pretty much impossible to achieve.

Been there; I've done a bunch of recordings right into my iPhone mic and the blown out distortion on them makes this sounds like it went through a Neve.
