I think maybe margaritas are a metaphor for heroin.

Also, it turns out that Margaritaville in a minor key is actually just "The Way" by Fastball.

Thanks for the idea. I performed it on ukulele at a local benefit this weekend, without attribution.
(What am I going to say- 'Here's a song by cortex.' ??)
Of course I did it in D minor, because it's 'the saddest of all keys.'
