Jordan

I'm pretty certain I stole the chorus melody from somewhere, but I can't quite place the source. If anyone figures it out, please send me a private message so I'll know what band to claim I'm paying homage to. Lyrics below.

I got high
With some kid I've never seen
And I don't plan on seeing again

All our lines
Fell from our mouths
Like hatching pink rattlesnakes on the bed

We fell down
Onto the sheets
Underneath flickering forty-watt stars

I looked over Jordan
He looked over me
Our own dim reflection
Was all we could see

We watched for a moment
To see who would blink
But it's alright now,
It's alright now

As I walked home I could feel the dawn crack
Like a whip on my shoulder, an eye for an eyelash
And all the dark shadows I longed to stay hidden in
Burst into flame and ignited the breath in my lungs

Whose was that question that lurked in the back of your throat?
Whose bright yearning? Whose life unsuggested
Was ours?
We fell down...

(I walked home,
Sucked on my pipe, got depressed
Like before, and before, and before

I've forgotten which lessons to learn
I forget every moral by dusk,
Every punchline by dawn

We fell down
Onto the sheets
Underneath flickering forty-watt stars)

You can never go home...

I like this. Thanks. :)

Also, don't recognize who you may have stolen from, but all great artists... ;)

Great track! It has a really nice, dreamy vibe to it. I'm reminded of Sufjan Stevens in terms of your arrangements and near-choral atmospheres, but there is something looser about your song that makes it sound really natural and "free" to me. I don't recognize any melody rip-off (or any other kind of rip-off).

I also would like to commend you on the lyrics. They're very literate and poetic, yet not belabored or forced-sounding. I read them before listening, and thought they'd be unlikely to flow well in the song, but you proved my hunch wrong. Your delivery nails it.

Thanks! Sufjan is definitely one of my favorites. Come to think of it, maybe it's him I'm ripping off...
