Carbon 7. Recorded March 9th 2013, the night comet Pan-Starrs first became visible to the naked eye in the northern hemisphere.

Dennis went downstairs to look for his mallets & to get a beer so this is just Ron & I.

Took him forever to find the mallets. Were you consciously thinking of the comet while you jammed or was it just a vast, dark night that contributed to the mood?

He probably stopped to feed his goats. I'd been eagerly anticipating the comet for weeks. Tried to spot it with binoculars earlier in the evening, without luck. Caught it the next night, up on Mt. Bonnell & got some pictures. Here's the first one I caught on the 10th. It was so faint at that point I didn't even know I'd caught it until I zoomed way in on the camera's lcd screen. We drove out to the McDonald observatory the next day, & stayed for 3 days -- it appeared next to the crescent moon on the 12th. Was much more spectacular up at 7800 feet than it was down here at almost sea level.
