Dizzy Gillespie Quintet f/ Skrillex - One Note Samba (1968, RARE!!)

April 1, 2015 8:43 PM

Long considered a forgotten masterpiece, this meeting of master jazz artists took place almost 50 years ago in Munich, leaving the audience speechless. Features Skrillex on the Wobble Bass, James Moody on flute, and Lalo Schifrin on piano

Note: This is not a remix or a mashup of audio recordings; I started from scratch with chord charts, and played each of the instruments myself one by one.. Because you know, I had 4 hours to spend on an April Fools gag today and was totally not procrastinating on something way more important and time-sensitive

This is fantastic. Really captures the feel of the era. Are those real instruments or synths?

Synths! Played with an electronic MIDI saxophone(!!!?!) My day job mostly involves making virtual instruments sound as lifelike as possible; Indie games rarely have the budget for full live studio recordings (though I do get to hire live players occasionally, like this month! YAY!)

It's not as painstaking and tedious as it used to be, though, since modern virtual instruments are amazingly dynamic and responsive, you can pretty much play intuitively and it'll sound pretty convincing.

I'm fairly familiar with your composing and producing, but I really had no idea you had performance chops like this! It all has a fantastic feel.
