London, Will You Miss Me

June 15, 2015 11:40 AM

My entry to this month's music challenge, written on the bus back from town.

A little delayed because I needed to acquire a D Harmonica, because I took a break from wishing I was Robert Plant to wish I was Bob Dylan.

This is just so ... polished and careworn and round and smooth and I want to keep it in my pocket to touch idly when my thoughts are far away. Great lyrics and performance on all the parts. I don't normally like to make comparisons like this, but it sounds like Kirsty MacColl and Billy Bragg teamed up to write and perform a spontaneous and lovely wistful confection. Just great.

Yeah, so wonderful! I love how effortless and freewheeling it all feels, the lightness of the vocal and the great doubling and shift in the arrangement in the last verse.

I'm definitely hearing the Dylan vibes. This is really beautiful.

I get kind of a Nick Drake thing from this.

Favorited this a few seconds in. Totally a Nick Drake-Bob Dylan thing happening here. Can't get over the melancholy of asking a city if it will miss you.

Thanks guys, so chuffed with this lovely feedback.

A friend says you can't have an ambition to Be Bob Dylan, I shall inform her that The Internet says otherwise.

This is fantastic! I love the harmonica, and the melancholic air. And there's a real sweetness to your tone. Just great.
