Angeline the Baker

Improvised acoustic guitar / singing. Recorded on phone. A bluegrass standard, but I'm playing it as a stream of consciousness improvisation. Usually these days my playing is pretty much by the book, but here I was thinking about ecstatic / outside players like John Fahey and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. No patching in. Only one take. No overdubbing. Get it right in the moment. Be real and accept flaws as long as they don't spoil anything important.

This is my first posting to Music, so I hope I'm getting the general vibe right and not violating any taboos.

Taking bluegrass / Americana songs and opening them up, stretching them out, etc is a good idea. You mentioned Fahey, who of course did it with great success and great finesse. I'd suggest continuing along this path, it will likely lead to good places.

Thanks for the feedback, flapjax.

I'm feeling super inspired by this project. The hard part is the balance between freedom and traditionalism. It's gotta be just right or the final thing doesn't work.

I used a bit of this in this month's MeFi podcast!

lucasgonze, welcome to MeFiMusic! I like this. Please feel free to post all sorts - there's not really a vibe here and we like all sorts, so you'll have to try quite hard before you violate any taboos :)
