Apples and Walnuts

A few weeks ago I was asked to play at the wedding of some friends. I don't really have anything appropriate, but was (against the odds) able to write something for it. This is it.

I don't know if it can be described as especially weddingy. No one seemed to mind, though. Certainly, no objects were thrown, so that's good. I've also uploaded this to Bandcamp, illustrated with a picture of me actually playing the song.

I did this recording live-in-the-studio in the week following the wedding.

This is really lovely, Grangousier! I love the lyrical phrasing. It has a really sweet, laid back jazzy rhythm and the internal rhymes really give the vocal melody a sort of cascading feeling at times. What a nice gift you've given your friends!

Well, you came through on this one! Seasonal, too.

I really like this, and yes what a lovely gift.

Oh god the opening chords are gorgeous. This is haunting like Nick Drake, but with more of the intervening years' music informing it. Like maybe if Nick Drake in a parallel universe was still making beautiful shit like this, with a subtly different picking pattern. You channel him. Thank you for doing this.

Not quite my thing, but appreciably well done and I've sent the link on to a couple of (non-Mefite) people whose sort of thing it definitely is. Thanks for sharing!
