Solar Eclipse Overture

November 12, 2017 10:32 AM

I know the 2107 eclipse over the U.S. has come and gone, but hey, there's always another one.

This is a "bonus track" (making it's debut right here on MeFi Music) from a 13-song all-synth CD called Solar Eclipse. The second half of this track contains quotes (motifs?) from several (~5?) songs from the CD, hence the "overture" in the title.

Once again, I made heavy use of a virtual instrument from the late H. Gunther Fortune. This plugin, "XWheel Of Fortune 4" or XWoF4, has large collection of what amount to backing tracks, with sparse chord changes over purported Indian scales. HG Fortune suggested improvising - "playing along" with the tracks, and that is largely what you'll hear, along with some pieces that I wholly composed.

Many of the sounds you hear on this track recur throughout the CD, including a particular string patch, "Glasgow piano" from the Yamaha MOX, Glockenspiel, timpani, and another freeware VST instrument called Zebralette.

You can hear snippets from all of the tracks here: https://www.reverbnation.com/redeen/album/179776-solar-eclipse.

2107 people watched it. That's what I meant. Biggest crowd ever.
