Another Year And Most Of Us Have Made It

December 31, 2018 12:24 PM

A song for the new year, about making it through another year, and doing it together, and finding the ways to do it without the folks who didn't.

Lyrics

The year is gone, and most of us are here still;
Some have left, others have been taken.
But shaken though it leaves us, we remain;
Another year and most of us have made it.

Another year of running through the gauntlet,
Another year of beating back the waves,
Another year of scrambling up to dry ground:
Another year, and most of us have made it.

The year is gone, with all its good and badness,
But goodness tends to take care of itself;
It's the hell, the loss, that's where we need each other.
Another year, and most of us have made it.

Another year of throwing out the life lines,
Another year of reaching for a hand,
Another year of holding tight together:
Another year, and most of us have made it.

Another year, and most of us have made it.

Another year, and most of us are here.

I mean, geez, cortex. I don't know where to start. What wonderful songwriting and recording. The melody, the weight of the piano and bass. Harmonies. The sincerity of the lyrics and of your performances. Thank you for sharing this. It feels timeless.

Oh my god, this is beautiful!

Especially love this line, ‘But shaken though it leaves us, we remain‘.

One of your best, if not your absolute best. Truly moving.
