Candy House

This is a rerecording of an old song, done for the February RPM Challenge. Features geetar plucking, good ol' reliable double tracked lo-fi vocals, and singing saw imitation whistling.

I was a little busy early this month, but I finally sat down and got a start. I'm going to try my hardest to resist the urge of instant feedback via MuFi, and try to do most of it on it's own. But I think this song is a pretty good representation of what the album is probably going to sound like.

I'm getting pretty into this droney whistling I'm developing. I'm hoping people will not be sure what that sound is coming from at first.

I think you're on to something with that "singing saw imitation whistling!" It's convincing in the sense that it becomes its own thing. I don't hear it as someone imitating something, I hear it as a fully realized musical instrument. Very well done, look forward to hearing more applications of the same technique.

Thanks, edlundart! The final product should be pretty full of this type of whistling. I'm contemplating a short piece with only whistling, but we'll see. Might be overkill, might be nice. It's really nice to get affirmation that someone else likes this whistling style!

I TOTALLY agree with edlundart about your whistle being "fully realized". It's a really important voice in this song and works beautifully.

I'm sure that I can't whistle like that, so excuse me while I look for a saw!

Nice.

Corduroy, the whistling totally works. Really, it's great. It's like a musical saw+a theremin+playing the rims of crystal glasses with water and your finger.

I like it as a short ditty, but I also end up wanting one more section. Take it to a bridge, I say, fully unsolicited.

This is really cool. The lower-pitched whistle, in particular, is hard to peg as a human whistle. (Is it really?)

I also like the double-tracked vox. "It was dumb to make our map out of tasty, tiny bread crumbs." Ha!

I like short songs.
