We're Moving

July 17, 2007 12:37 AM

We are moving in 2 weeks and a while ago we "fluffed" our house to make it look pretty so we could sell it and that entailed removing any trace of human habitation. As a result, all our stuff has been packed away for weeks and I've been going insane in our neatly arranged, showy house in which no one could possibly live a normal life.

All of my music stuff has been packed away for it seems like years and tonight I couldn't take it anymore and had to just quickly record something and post it to feed my addiction/withdrawal.
Just got done writing/recording this in the duration of a 6-pack of DAB using that tiny pinhole mic on the powerbook because that's all I have. I'm dyin' here.
Sorry if it sucks.

Don't know what to tell you. I guess I am a die-hard fan, because it sounds really nice to me. And damn, you make a pinhole mic sound better than I would make Abbey Road with all its producers and equipment.

And if you are moving, you should just move to Venezuela, you know? Weather's perfect all year round, life is good, we could start a Calypso band.

But back to the song. It's good you posted it, I'm sure you and I are not the only ones around here with withdrawal syndrome when you don't post for a while.

It does not suck. In fact, I like it a lot.

Is it an out of town move? Hope it goes well in any case.

The opposite of suck.

Man, your gentle touch with things is amazing. Pinhole mic? No. I don't believe it. Your voice and guitar both ring with clarity.

Good luck with the move and I hope you're able to get set back up really soon.

A pinhole mic?! I share snsranch's disbelief.

I guess it just goes to show you that equipment and gear mean little -- songwriting can carry almost any recording.

Great song, as usual.

Thanks, guys. I just listened to this again in the harsh, unflinching light of sobriety, on computer speakers no less.
Ouch.
Live and learn.
We're literally moving across the street. While you'd think that would make things easier, it actually sucks more because you can't rationalize spending money on a mover for so short a distance, so you actually end up moving everything yourself.

I think it's maybe more a mix and EQ issue than a problem with the mic -- the vocal gets a little lost and is a tad dull compared to your other recordings, but it nevertheless sounds more than decent. And the song? Really sweet. My wife and I went through a similar move recently -- good luck!

You, sir, have been a great factor in converting me to MeFi Music. Honestly. The gags and insiders are great and all, but holy freaking crap chococat, your stuff is gorgeous beyond reason.
