Shopping Cart Guy

September 30, 2007 1:28 AM

At our local supermarket there's a really happy guy that wrangles the shopping carts. He's really, really tall and kind of looks like Lurch. He is always smiling and so into his work that I always wonder what's going on in his head. He's my superhero.

Okay, full disclosure is that I kind of did a bit of an Elton John on this song, in that it used to be about someone else.
Last year, my brother-in-law turned 40 and I recorded a song for his big 40th party that had my kids and wife singing on it and it was really "funny" and cute and everyone loved it, etc.
Then last month he left my sister and their two small kids for a pretend internet girlfriend he met on a Crowded House message board. She's a grandmother from Ohio.
Anyway, I always liked the way the bed track turned out and I wanted to RECLAIM it. The shopping cart guy and this challenge popped into my head a few days ago, so new vocals and a bunch of new stuff and presto-chango.

Really great 60's sort of vibe to this, and the lyrics made me smile. Good stuff :-)

I, too, wonder how the shopping cart guy pushes such a long row of carts.

Cool song.

hey chococat, that's great! I'm sorry about the brother in law thing, that's really bad. It's interesting considering the original subject and the dark intensity of the music. Subconscious premonition?

Well I'm happy for you for reclaiming this thing. What a great Superhero song for some deserving heroes.

Love the sound of this. Love that John Barry/Bond soundtrackesque riff and guitar sound.

"and renegade carts that we claim are not ours" is a smoking line.

I really dig it. I was so bad at pushing carts at my high school grocery store. Especially in winter. It's hard! I could only push the minimum (I think it was like 4 or 5 carts) without getting yelled at for being too slow.
