Working On A Line

This is one of the tracks I submitted to the MeFi music compiiation project, but not the one that will be included on the CD. Dessert Parade is primarily a studio band now, since the four of us have scattered around the country and both the bass player and guitar player are on their way to being Famous Rock Stars. We recorded this one in 2002 for our first release.

The timing on the intro drives me crazy. Impossible to make sense of it. I want you to know this. I want you to understand this. Because it's really enjoyable boot-stomping country blues once it gets going.

It's like a train getting started. The rhythm is a little off at the beginning, but that's cool. You're right Cortex. Once it gets some momentum going, it's a smooth ride.

It's a little off? Huh. Probably because I don't think we used a click track on that one. But the hits during the first verse are just on the 2 and 4 instead of the 1 and 3. Maybe that's what's throwing the train off the track there.

Yeah, it's one of those things that drives me crazy while it's happening, but then as soon as you resolve into the song proper it feels like, oh, okay then...

And fifteen seconds later it's entirely forgotten. Who knows, it might just be some fucked up wiring in my brain that makes it feel so weird.

I like the desynchronization. It feels like getting out of bed.
