And Now She's Gone

MeFi Music Challenge, Lyrics Flavor. Toe-tappin' old-timey country happy blues.

The lyrics challenge was great, especially for someone like me who HATES writing lyrics and singing them, but finds them a necessary evil.

Recorded over the course of a week, in-betweensies and in many rooms (you can hear my son saying something in the other room at the end of the track) and with a mac and a pc, with shitty earbuds and whatever mic is installed on my laptop. Using Audacity. Please forgive any crap-out on the levels when playing on speakers that are good; I don't have any. Oh, and it's the first recording of my piano!

I had much fun putting this together. It's the first multi-track recording (beyond two tracks and not counting sound collage) I've done in a hellishly long time. Thanks, MetaFilter, for inspiring me to get off my ass!

(For Jessamyn, by default, since the inspirational lyrics were hers. And also cause she's super awesome.)

Great fun, not_on_display. There should be a tag for those times when one has to go through extra loops to post the songs here. For a little while I was recording in a portastudio and to upload the song to the pc I had to burn it in a CD, then plug an external burner to a computer (because the main computer refused to recognize any CD drives for a while) and then take it out thru a USB memory into the main computer. It felt like I would spend more time exporting the song from the studio to the computer than actually playing.

But back to your song, kudos for overcoming the technical difficulties!

Oh yeah, the lyrics, so you can see why I am not chiefly a lyricist. I tend to make up nonsense phrases, and then try to bind them into some sort of meaning by switching this, yanking that, and by the time I'm done, I have something which may lok or sound good to someone else, but always makes me cringe. This time, however, I'm not so displeased, because I went for the simple.
I feel so happy,
I feel so blue.
I want my cake and
To eat it too.

And now she's gone,
So far away.
Yeah, she's gone.
Just called to say

I feel so happy,
I feel so sad.
I lost the best girl
I ever had.

And now she's gone,
She just called to say
That she's gone.
Hey hey!

Well, I know that what you say is true;
You know I'd call you anything but a liar

When you tell me, life is all about conflicting desires.
What else is there left for me to say?

You have your husband,
You have your life.
I have my baby,
I have my wife.

So now you're gone,
So far away.
And now you're gone.
Just called to say

I feel so happy,
I feel so blue.
I had my cake and
I ate it too.

And now she's gone,
She just called to say
That she's gone,
Hey hey!

Well, I know that what you say is true;
You know I'd call you anything but a liar

When you tell me, life is all about conflicting desires.
What else is there left for me to say?

Hey hey!
