Kitten (in my robot purse)
July 26, 2008 10:03 PM
My submission to the spy challenge.
Ideally, I would hold out on posting this song until the monthly challenge involved not just spies, but kittens and robots as well.
Some songs are better not explained, and this one might be better if you just think it's random nonsense, but here goes:
Luazinha and I have two cats, one tuxedo, one tiger-striped. Our friend Rachel noticed that when they stalked each other for fun as kittens, they resembled Spy vs. Spy comics. She had a vinyl purse with a robot appliqued on it, and one of the cats liked to hide in it. She wrote the lyrics, and I wrote the music.

Also, your singing threw me off for the first listen. It wasn't until halfway through the second listen that I could hear the spy theme in the music. That was wonderfully done!

Yeah, well, sampled mellotron--the 'strawberry fields' flute, and the electronic voices that start off the tune.

Oh really? Those electronic voices are pretty neat.

This has been a fantastic week at MefiMusic. This reminds me of the first wave of music I found here that surprised me because they sounded much better than the home recordings I was expecting. Great song umbú, thx for posting it.

This is so great. I like the harmonic shift in the second half of the song (the non-spy part, I guess), and I especially love that the bridge is from the perspective of the purse. And I like the Mellotron too. I like everything!
Thanks for sharing your inspiration -- it's cool that the lyrics work on a literal level and also on a silly nonsense level.

This is catchy, I listened to it a few days ago and had it stuck in my head, I didn't know what the hell I was singing than I remembered the song was from Mefi. Really good stuff.

Dear lord that is a catchy song. I have a feeling I'll be humming this one for a few weeks.

This is fun! Like if They Might Be Giants were much looser.
