Say It (Over and Over Again)

October 25, 2008 6:21 AM

I'm a big fan of Frank Loesser's lyrics and Jimmy McHugh's melodies, so I decided to add a few to my repertoire. When I'm learning new songs, I record myself a capella to see how my voicings are sounding and what I need to work on. It's bare, but I thought this turned out kind of sweet.

Odd bit of trivia: this song was originally written in 1940 for a Jack Benny western movie. Because Jack Benny was such a cowboy.

Very pretty. Raw like the birth of a wild animal.

It's lovely, Lynn. I like the unforced drawl you have here; it calls to mind Abbey Lincoln without sounding like her. It's just got that same sort of intimate, sophisticated swing to it.

I hadn't noticed that you had posted to MeMusic before. I'll have to go back and listen to some of your other recordings.
