Sap Song

February 18, 2009 5:22 PM

I recorded this on my iPhone while walking home from school, using the awesome 4-track app GigBaby!.

I decided to use only first takes from this song, in keeping with the distinctively DIY feel I got from walking in the snow and singing into my iPhone. As a result, the high note in the melody never quite gets there.

When I got home I realized the only way to get it up to MeFi Music was to upload each track individually to GarageBand and mixdown to an mp3, at which point I couldn't help but sweeten the record up with some reverb and such. Who knows, this might just be my first track for the RPM Challenge...

As an aside, I can't recommed this app GigBaby! enough. It's fantastic for getting down your ideas, and only costs $0.99! To be clear, I am in no way connected with or invested in this product or it's producers, and I stand to gain nothing by promoting it. I am, however, entirely invested in creative people putting "pen to paper" as it were, on their mobile phones, where ever they may roam.

I'm impressed..with the singing, the recording and sequencing (on a phone?!!), and that you have the balls to walk down the street singing high-pitched doo-wop scat lyrics. Good on ya!

Oh wow, this is awesome. The sounds of traffic and city life really adds a lot to the I-don't-give-a-shit-I'm-recording-doo-wop-on-to-my-phone-as-I-walk-in-public. High five!
