Hey, Hey Rock 'n' Roll

April 26, 2009 12:06 AM

There are times I wish I had an electric guitar . . .

. . . and a drummer, and a bassist. In the mean time this acoustic version of an otherwise rocking song I have in my head will have to do.

Maybe it's a failure of imagination on my part, but I think it's much better like this than it would be with a band. I like its melancholy quality, and think it might be lost if it was actually rock & roll.

Thanks for breaking the ice on the feedback. I just listened to this again after a couple of days and agree that I may have been channeling my inner Elliot Smith on this one (or at least making some feeble attempt). Maybe it's better stripped down . . .

Well, I love Elliott Smith so it makes perfect sense that I would like it this way.

Don't worry about the lack of comments; I've had stuff I was almost too embarrassed to post get lots of action, and stuff I busted my hump on get a big fat goose egg. Songs go by so fast here that some just get missed. I'm glad I caught this one!

Dude, yeah, this is great as an acoustic guitar song -- if it was a ROCK song, the "set you free" bit might come off as cliche, I think, whereas here it's like, "it'll set you free -- that's what you think you want -- but by now I know better." Yes.
