One for the 'traditional' challenge.
Me being the prodigal son I've been lately to the site, I wasn't aware there was a "traditional" challenge. I discovered it with chococat's fantastic submission and I just couldn't resist.
First I thought that the challenge was to write an original that sounded like a traditional song, but when I realized it was a cover, this one seemed perfect.
This is based in a traditional son jarocho. The fast melodic guitar is actually a requinto jarocho, the two strummed guitars are actually jaranas and the bass is just a bass.

How many people are involved in this recording?
Just me and my girlfriend. I played the instruments and she sang.
I really like the repeating patterns of the requinto, and the duetting voices.
The requinto was really difficult to play. I only started learning to play requinto this week and it requires a right hand technique that is very different to any technique I've ever used to play other string instruments.
As for the duetting voices, the best thing about this song, which I'm afraid is lost in translation here, is that there's really clever games with the repeating verses. An example. There is a part where it says:
Maria tero lero le, they say you'll leave tomorrow
Maria tero lero le
I'd rather see you go today
They say you'll leave tomorrow
Because you've been a tyrant
I'd rather see you go today
With the love I give you
You've been a tyrant
And if it's true you leave tomorrow
With the love I give you

Tomorrow or today, it's just the same
Tomorrow or today, it's just the same

So, there are parts like that "with the love I give you/ you've been a tyrant/ and if it's true you leave tomorrow / with the love I give you" that are an effect created by repetition and they are quite nice. Needless to say, translated it sounds a bit silly, but the original is written very much like country people (campesinos) speak and it has a very strong poetic feeling. I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.
About V singing more: yeah definitely. She actually has that thing they call perfect pitch and a very impressive ability to memorize a melody after hearing it once. She has helped me a lot emerge from my former tone deaf self into a more functional instrument player. Before she used to just sing what I asked her to, but now she is feeling more comfortable and suggests changes and arrangements for the songs, which is pretty cool.
