The original broadside dates to his execution in 1701.

I first heard Hesperus do this song. My version is largely derivative of theirs with some of the older verses included and different chording.

I'm pleased to post this as my first on MeFi. My very dear friend umbú has been nudging me to post for some time and helped me with the process (thanks, umbú).

This is great. I'm so glad you posted it. I like the contrast between the soothing chords and lapping-of-the-waves repetition of phrases on the one hand, with the lyrics, especially the 'we must die,' on the other.

You should be posting your own stuff here [cue others to chime in and add gentle peer pressure]. I should mention that blue bar's voice has already appeared on this mefi music track that randomly sounds a bit like The National even though we recorded it almost twenty years ago.
