Get You Laid

Track seven from Inchoatery. As much a mixing stunt as anything—trying to synthesize a drinking-buddy monologue in a crowded bar while the band plays on.

Putting this together was interesting, and a little scary because I didn't really know if it was going to work that well until I got everything put together. I wrote a bunch about how I approached the Fake Conversation In Fake Bar thing over on my site, if you're curious about the details.

The speech itself is just a stream-of-consciousness amalgam of buddy-talk tropes bootstrap talk and such that I wrote down during the first week or so of February; I had meant to go back and try and give it a serious editing pass, but ultimately it seemed like having it be sort of off-the-cough and messy and redundant was actually a better fit for the idea of the song than something more tightly edited and structured.

OH MAN THAT BASS sounds awesome.

The live sound is pretty convincing as a whole. That crowd is very rude to talk through the whole song!

I was kind of expecting there to be more of "punchline," but I guess it's a "mood piece."

Okay, I'm I'm going to go read about "the details" now.

Like it - not an easy thing to pull off, but it sounds pretty convincing. Maybe the band is just a bit too "stereo" if you know what I mean? A more blurred, wall-of-sound (perversely enough) might be even more convincing? Also, if we're going for authenticity the guy doing the talking (which I love btw) should be SHOUTING TO MAKE HIMSELF HEARD OVER THE FUCKING RACKET...WHAAATTSATYOUSAYYY???.... You know, right in the ear of the other guy - so, lows and low-mids stripped right out, very brittle, hard sound. Anyway - I'll shut up. Maybe you should ask Flapjax to do one of his cool vids for this.....

If this were on the radio, I'd sit in the driveway until the end. Might even wait for the DJ to reveal who is was. Well done!
