Lonely Teardrop

May 19, 2010 7:00 PM

From a recent live show with my band, Medicine Bone. The key we did this in wasn't the best for me, so I ended up kinda screaming it. And the recording is dirty and clipping. So, it turned out just about right. Oh, and the best thing is that old buddy Ken Kawashima (hear him with me here, here and here) was in town and graced us with some of his superb blues harpery. Video at YouTube and Vimeo.

Recorded live at Bright Brown, Nakano, Tokyo, on May 2, 2010. Medicine Bone: Samm Bennett, walking drum & vocal - Ken Shima, guitar - with special guest Ken Kawashima, harmonica.

LONELY TEARDROP

ten thousand miles in a lonely teardrop
ten thousand miles in a lonely teardrop
ten thousand miles in a lonely teardrop
see it fall fall fall
see it fall

last time i saw you you were getting on board a train
last time i saw you you were getting on board a train
last time i saw you you were getting on board a train
and you were gone gone gone
you were gone

i asked the gypsy
would i ever see you again
i asked the gypsy
would i ever see you again
i asked the gypsy
would i ever see you again
and she said no no no
she said no

the moon is moving
moving behind a cloud
the moon is moving
moving behind a cloud
the moon is moving
moving behind a cloud
and i'm alone alone alone
i'm alone

This is really, really cool! I watched the video to see that shouting. Loved how you got into it. That "wearable drum" is pretty sweet too, and you play it like it's the easiest thing in the world. Great performance!

The drum gives the song a unique style, which would otherwise sound more like standard blues.

And I happen to really enjoy the yelling :)

That harp is so dirty and guttural, but sort of clean and precise at the same time. I love it.
Really great to hear you singing so entirely differently, it's fantastic. Can't watch the video on the machine I'm on but will do as soon as I get home.

Wow, you really are hootin and hollerin.

That's some nice harp. Good song.
