smile like gwynplaine

a happy, skippy tune about gwynplaine (with theremin)!

This is off melissa may and I's new album, I've Been Watching a Lot of Horror Movies Lately. I've been waiting to share stuff actually off the album for awhile, but this one seems to have made the blog rounds over the last few months. And because I shared one of the more non-songs I've done recently yesterday, I wanted to share an "actual" song.

The album's gotten some nice reviews and, one of the things I've been doing in my unemployment for the last 6 months is making videos for the songs (it was a long time dream to do videos for each song--I think I got all of 'em but two before saying that was enough). Anyhoo, here's the vid for "Smile Like Gwynplaine" as well. It's pretty ridiculous, but it turned out how I wanted so I couldn't complain.

So, yeah, just wanted to share this with all my pals on mefi music. It's a good summer joint, as long as you don't pay attention to the lyrics (and who does nowadays?):

Smile like Gwynplaine. Cock your head like Michael and smile like Gwynplaine.

Wonderful! Love the theremin, and the whole sonic character of it. Well done!

I do. But, as per suggestion, I won't this time.

Video's big fun!

I love the percussion on this one. The rattling verbed-out drumline vs. the minimalist stick-click hand-clap stuff just kills me.

thanks, fellas. flapjax, feel free to listen to the lyrics! since i actually work hard on those, that makes me happy. there were actually verses to this, but they just didn't feel right so it was narrowed down to just the chorus part.

I also love the percussion. This whole album is solid, I hope those of you who don't have it pick it up soon!!

I love it. Nice texture between drums, guitars, and electronics. Very playful and fun!

Awesome. I have a feeling that high-frequency keyboard melody is going to be what I hum all week.
