I'm Looking Through You (Beatles cover)

August 31, 2010 2:48 PM

So scody had a medical adventure today, which got me thinking about how awesome scody is and how much I enjoyed hanging out with her and being music dorks in LA last fall, and this is one of the songs I remember really enjoying during our drunken singalongery.

I grew up hearing a fair share of Beatles music, but I'd never heard this one before Beatles Rockband came out. And while I must by reckoning have played it a couple times at earlier also-Rockband-drenched stops on my big meetup trip last fall the thing that sunk it clearly into my memory was scody's infectious grin while she sang along in carsonb's living room.

We may have come back around to it two or three times that night, a couple dozen drunk mefites pretending to be rockstars on a too-warm LA night and having a hell of a time.

So I decided to bang out my own noisy rock take while she was in surgery, because that beats chewing my nails off. Report from her boyfriend is that she's out of surgery and looking good, so I'm going to assume that the power of rock helped.

Here's looking obnoxiously loudly at you, kid. Hope this rattles your jello a bit.

Confidential to scody: Paul Weller was unavailable for collaboration at this time but sends his love.

THE POWER OF ROCK HAS SPOKEN.

This is a great tribute.

Well, so you got scody through the surgery, but now I have an earworm.

This is fun stuff. The vocals have this nervous intensity about them that really gives the song a new feel. Good job!

I can't wait to listen to this. I love that riff in the original.

The riff is represented somewhat, uh, approximately in my recording. Be prepared.

Aw shucks indeed! I just saw this (somehow missed it in my first Dilaudid-drenched perusal of the meta thread) and I just played it three times in a row, singing along loudly whilst bouncing up and down (the dogs even joined in for a chorus or two, barking and hopping around in circles). Thank you so much, cortex -- this is smashingly sweet. It's one of my fave Beatles songs ever, and singing it with you is also one of my fave memories of that extraordinarily awesome evening. Looking forward to singing it again with you sometime down the road (and if Weller can't make it, that's just his loss).

I'm high on Percocet (scody in the sky with diamonds) so I get to be forgiven for posting the following kissy emoticon:
