Normal For Once in Toronto

A live recording of my band Normal For Once, at the Press Club in Toronto on Oct. 7. Me on guitar and vocals, Greg Coldwell on bass, Markus Temiseva on drums. I messed up the order of the verses... the proper lyrics are:

Do you really exist?
I don't think you do
Might as well be a puppet I'm talking to

I have documented proof
this chart will clearly show
I'm on top of the heap, there's nothing down below

La la la la la, I'm the only person in the world

I flail my arms around
I'm kicking at the air
It doesn't matter, 'cause nothing's really there

I can't be proven wrong
or taunted or maligned
'cause opposition is all a figment of my mind

La la la la la, I'm the only person in the world

You say I'm out to lunch
you're blowing off your steam
but you're all just characters in my dream

I'm hearing the alarm
I'm reaching for the snooze
This reality I just don't want to lose

La la la la la, I'm the only person in the world

What I love about solipsism is not its actuality but merely its possibility. That alone is enough to give it the power it needs to be relevant. It ends up becoming necessary to account for extreme viewpoints in your moderate philosophy, regardless of how much credit you give to the existence of others.

Which leads me to believe that I just wrote a kickass song about solipsism. With a clever ending.
