Real To Reels -Tribute to John Lennon

December 7, 2010 7:48 AM

I wrote this on December 8th, 1980 right after I heard about John Lennon's murder. I was in college, in Albuquerque N.M., and was so upset I had to take a cold shower to calm down. I wrote it in the shower, and wrote it down when I dried off. We've played it in various bands ever since, and this version was recorded in Chicago in 1995.

Real To Reels

Oh, I'm not here tomorrow,
I only hear what you say to me.
And if I'm not here tomorrow
Yesterday was where I want to be.

I won't be round forever,
if I am, it's only here
on these reels rollin' round.

Now if you can't see tomorrow,
don't you know what you want to be?
Now my joys, and laughs, and sorrows,
bring my music flowing back to me.

I won't be round forever,
if I am, it's only here
on these reels rollin' round.

- Instrumental

Oh, I'm not here tomorrow,
I only hear what you say to me
And if I'm not here tomorrow
Yesterday was good enough for me

I won't be round forever,
if I am, it's only here
on these reels rollin' round.
