Take On Me REMIX

October 23, 2011 7:42 PM

Remix of Aha's Take On Me made by intricately, expertly, and precisely scratching a burned CD and playing it in my car's stereo and then recording that from my car speakers into GarageBand and adding "Club reverb". So turn it up!

I tried to cut out a couple small, silent moments but the new GarageBand appears to make it impossible to cut music out, and instead only lets you stretch your music over the silent spots?? That's what those strange, robot DJ sounds are.

Nice. You should get Brandt Brauer Frick to do a live, mostly acoustic cover of this.

Thanks, umbu. That video is pretty cool.

Just to be clear, I didn't actually scratch the CD on purpose to create this recording. But would that be possible? Could you physically alter a CD to create purposeful results (ie. you're pretty sure by scratching here, it will change the song in this specific way) like people can do with reel-to-reel?

They should use this in the previews for the next Transformers movie.

Yes. People do it. Check out Oval and Microstoria.

This really reminded me of The Field, who do almost exactly the same thing in software, at a much more micro level.

Find! Been doing some casually inexpert stuff like this in software, so it's pushing all my buttons. Absolutely love the backstory/foundremix concept. Now there's a tag that needs reviving!
