Elbow

February 5, 2012 9:08 AM

The first completed song out of the 10 I'm supposed to have done by the end of the month for the RPM Challenge. Don't think I'm going to make it at this rate.

My wife has this bizarre habit when she's sleeping. She lies on her side and sort of puts her hand on her head and points her elbow straight up. She does it every night, she's done it ever since I can remember. The arm will slowly start tipping over, ever so slowly, and then jerk back into it's upright position again. Over and over. If I'm reading or watching TV, the elbow will slowly come in to my range of vision or even nudge me, then reset it's position, only to begin the cycle again. She says it's "comfortable." It's funny or cute the first few years but it becomes tortuous with the repetition and anticipation of the thing.

Anyhow, she'd never seen the phenomenon in action, so I took a video of it happening one night a few months ago. She thought it was hilarious when I showed her and wanted me to make a song about it. I did.

Here is the video for the song.

What a strange sleep habit and a nice, playful little tune to go with it. I especially like the 'ding!' when her arm pops back up in the video.

That is deeply weird. The song is great though!

I love the rock'n'roll chorus and the filter on the vocal. And the lalalas.

Nice groove to this...I'm usually not one for jokey lyrics but the song sounded so darn good I didn't mind, and the story behind it is funny.

I saw the video before reading about it here and I thought it must be a put-on because no one sleeps like that, ever. So, huh!

Also, yes: "ding!"

That is so odd! But it reminds me - I used to hold my arm straight up in the air if I was lying on my side and watching tv or something (never anything like it sleeping tho). It did feel comfortable, particularly if balanced in just the right spot. I wonder if it's a thing. Like maybe it opens one's chest so breathing is much easier or something peculiar like that?

In any case, very cool song and tell your wife thanks for letting us see it. Because that is so quirky and odd and after the description seeing was required. ;D
