February Challenge - The first single you ever bought

February 5, 2012 11:58 AM

Feb's challenge is pretty darn simple. What was the first single you ever bought? Cover it!

If you never bought a single, choose something off the first album, CD, download, whatever.

Tag your entry 'mefimusicchallenge' and 'firstsingle'.

In other news, I'm absolutely swamped with work and other stuff at the moment and finding it hard to be timely with the challenge stuff, so if someone would like to take over for a while, I'd be really grateful.

I'm trying to remember whether my first single was this or this. Either way I suspect hilarity ensues. Also, both have kettle drums!

I don't think I've ever bought a single. The first album I ever bought...that I can do, but I'll have to wait until I've finished moving, and it'll have to take a back seat to the RPM album.

I have given this much thought and I regret to inform all of you that I will not, in fact, be covering "Hooked on Classics."

OH MAN. i had totally forgotten about this, and listening right now is inducing some musical-madeline flashback involving a cassette boombox and one of those acrylic blankets with the massive satin binding.

I really, really want an acapella rendition..

Oh, I think I found mine. It's off the first album I bought and I've wanted to cover it for YEARS.

Pretty sure my first CD was Linkin Park, so....

I'm like 95% sure I won't get around to covering this, so I'll just say that I'm pretty sure the first single I bought--I'd bought a couple of albums before that, I think--was Jerk Out. I cannot for the life of me remember why.

Ha, a Corduroy cover of that would be a thing of wonder.

The comments on that video are something else, even for BoobTube.

seriously, I would love to hear Linkin Park swathed in Corduroy. DO IT.

I got most of mine tracked today but vocals will have to wait until I recover from flu.

It's been an interesting journey of discovery because as I was tracking the different parts I realized this song pretty much informed my whole musical development. So it's like the ur-unSane track.

Ha, don't get your hopes up. Talk about cheap music!

Oh man. Man oh man. So my first was an album, not a single, on cassette, but I was definitely motivated in large part there by the big single on it: Hero, by Mariah Carey.

The idea of covering that is a lot to grapple with.

Blam. I'm not sure if I'm happy with it, precisely, but it's done now and also the theremin may have permanently damaged my upper-midrange hearing.

Just noticed the challenge, downloaded the song ("Substitute", The Who) and noticed it was for February. Alas, alak. What's up for March?

Challenges remain open an extra month these days - so have at it.

I'll put the Feb challenge up today.
