Climbing up the Walls

July 7, 2012 3:25 PM

It's always best when the light is off.

I won't pretend I don't know who Radiohead are, but I'm not too familiar with most of their work including OK Computer and this was the song I was assigned in the challenge. I really enjoyed working on it, it was really interesting to take I song I was completely unfamiliar with and break it down and then put it back together in my own way. Mefi music challenges rock!

It's a little like John McCrea and David Bowie had a baby and that baby grew up and recorded a minimalist take on Climbing up the Walls.

Sounds like the Arab Strap and that is a good sound.

Maybe it wasn't appropriate for this version, but I have to say I'll be disappointed if no one does the scream at the end of this song. And so will all your friends and family. And Santa. And puppies.

Cheers. I have a whole nursery of musical abominations that I've been brooding. I did get a good scream out of the Dylan/Axl Rose baby, but didn't get it recorded and it refused to do a second take. Sorry Puppies, sorry Santa.

This is rad. Really digging this Scott Walker vibe.

I really like what you did with that higher, echoing guitar part that comes in on the chorus. It really opens up the mix and elevates everything at that point. Well done.

Sounds like the Arab Strap

with a splash of lou reed, perchance.

I dig this, it's really crept up on me, I think because of the vocal delivery and the sparser feel, I keep singing this version to myself throughout the day. Nice one.

The tone and style of the singing makes this so much for me. Not really a minimalist myself but the sparse feel sat well with the vocals.
