Everything Begins (1992 demo by Shrimp Tractor)

I've been digitizing some cassettes, and found this, which I'd COMPLETELY forgotten. It was the first time I had ever set foot in a recording studio, and the first song of mine that ever got recorded properly. Story inside.

The band was the mighty Shrimp Tractor, formed when Martin Whitehead (who ran Subway Records and had an Indie #1 with his band The Flatmates, which had just exploded violently on stage) responded to an ad of mine in Melody Maker. We had a pretty good run, couple of singles, lots of gigs and even a tiny little mini tour, which sadly ended the band in an incident involving a fishtank.

I can't remember much about how or where we recorded this... in some greasy basement on an 8-track probably.

Vocals and bass are my friend Pat. He and I went on to play together for years in a whole bunch of bands. He released a terrific solo CD too. Drums are by a nice fellow called Ian whose last name I'm ashamed to say I can't remember.

I still quite like this song, and have been fooling around with resurrecting it in a very modified version.

NB Martin tells me The Flatmates have just reformed and are gigging again.
