My Childhood At the Open Mic

May 28, 2014 8:10 AM

If memory serves, in my pre-teen years, bands At the Open Mic tended to sound a little like this. I wish more of them had covered Cortex's songs.

Cover of Cortex's phenomenal At the Open Mic, with much inspiration from Los Muchachos Mexicanos full band arrangement of the same.

Me: guitars, lead vocals, bass programming
My sister in law, myself and I: backing vocals
Kyle Garageband: drums

First time in six years that I've used guitars in a recording. I'm very dissatisfied with my skill but very satisfied with level of fun it was. A+ will record again. I meant to replace the Garageband drummer with hand programmed drums. But, it's late and there's lots of work to do tomorrow so, please enjoy Kyle. He's like a million times better than I am anyway.

For some reason I mainly frequented open mics when I was still in elementary school. It was awesome; 11 year olds can crowd surf for a very long time.

Yay!
Bonafide composer approval in less than ten minutes.
I love this place.
And I love this song. I listen to it at least once a week, alternating between the original and Los Muchachos Mexicanos' arrangement to keep it fresh.

Very well done. Now I'm off to search for the original!

Thank you!
Alas, I seem to have done less than well in the linking department.
Let's make more convenient links.
