The Familiar

Have you talked to your child about the dangers of smooth jazz fractals?
The ideal: a never-ending series of sections, each twice as long as the last, and somehow an elaboration of it, but never exactly repeating.
Here I only managed one level of doubling from 16 to 32 bars and a hint of the next section before I decided to turn away with my sanity intact.

I can totally hear the voiceover work by Pat Sajak and Vanna White from the PS3 "Wheel of Fortune" game playing at random over this track. It is brilliant.

I like this a lot, because it sounds like it was written by a very enthusiastic artificial intelligence. Like if Data from ST:TNG had listened to too much Weather Channel Music and was inspired to create a smooth jazz masterpiece. I can see the rest of the crew hating it but being very tactful and encouraging. Well, I like it genuinely, Data. Play it again, and please make more like it! Weather on the Eights was never so much fun.

Riker (annoyed): Data, I don't get it. Why have you been subjecting yourself over and over to this mild background music from late 20th-century automated meteorological forecasts?
Data: Now I am confused, Commander. It was you, just 17.43 days ago, who suggested I might enjoy a form of 20th-century music called Weather Report.

(Also, I love that "the rest of the crew hating it but being very tactful and encouraging" pretty aptly describes Mrs. Mubba's reaction as I slogged through this exercise.)
