Coffee Time! (a capella)
January 15, 2007 1:16 PM
This song was originally written in 1945 by Lennie Hayton for the soundtrack of the Minnelli/Astaire MGM musical Yolanda & the Thief. Since I just started drinking my beloved morning latte again after giving it up for 2-3 months, it felt appropriate to do a little joyful a capella singing to the world for no real reason whatsoever. Oh, if only I could set up a 5 piece band in my office... sigh.

Thanks. :)
Oh, for those who might care (all 1 or 2 of you...) I forgot to mention that Carmen McRae did a really cool version of this and that's where I first heard it. I sang her updated lyrics because they're a little hipper. Here are the original 1945 lyrics, from back when coffee was a dime.

Ohhh, and FWIW I made a mistake: Lennie Hayton was the arranger, but the composer & original lyricist were Harry Warren & Arthur Freed. Whuups.

Were I in San Fran, we could do stuff. I like playing jazz piano behind singers like you.
