Falling Awake

July 21, 2018 10:53 AM

Song about trying not to give up.

Song is a demo for an album hopefully being recorded this summer with a friend. It includes the song Jonathan's Guitar, which this song references a bit.

falling awake
to the falling rain
i couldn’t draw
a straight line

what is the dif-
terence between
wanting to stay
asleep

and not wanting
to stay
alive

misery lies like
the palace
at the center
of the city

i don’t live there
but i visit
and it’s
heavenly

to receive
self pity
a plenty

rachel says
over the church bells
“you have to be nicer
to yourself”

i don’t want to be selfish
i want to be self-less

falling awake
to the falling rain
i couldn’t draw
a straight line

yet i’ve followed you here somehow

Really pretty playing and singing, Corduroy. Nice melody and pacing that fits the lyrics. Is that actual rain in the background? Thumbs up on the doubling up and harmonies at the end.

Thanks so much, rangefinder 1.4 and nikaspark! I’m especially glad you liked the doubling up, somewhat dissonant harmonies at the end. The rain is real, but wasn’t intentional; it just started raining when I was too deep in to stop!

Wow yes, what a serendipitous moment. I hope that discourages you from re-recording as this is bang on :)
