Hold Fire (Crispin St Crispian mix)
March 27, 2021 1:18 PM
A mix created specially for MeFiMu by erstwhile producer, raconteur and unicyclist Crispin St Crispian.
Crispin is also a well-known medium who specialises in bringing websites back from the dead. Good luck with MeFiMusic Crispian......(you'll f*cking need it mate)

Hot damn this slaps. I was enjoying it already then the cowbell kicked in and I nearly punched the air in glee.
The syncopated vocals in the second verse are so tight and great.

Thanks for taking the time to listen guys - much appreciated. I didn't really see this one as a "banger" (although I'm not entirely sure I know what that means) or a "slapper" - it sort of lopes along in a fairly laid-back way. I thought it might be a bit too slow and polite actually. Oh and as an aside the "wow!" is actually a "woah!" (which ties in with the title) - but no matter - must be my accent...
The song is actually a rewrite of one I wrote donkey's years ago called "What Was And What Might Have Been". I wanted to re-record it and the backing track came together fine. But when I went to record the vocal - it was DOA. Just fell flat on its arse. So I had to improvise a new vocal on the spot. That actually happens fairly often with me - and usually the "red light" semi-improvised vocals are the better ones (same with guitar solos). There's a lesson there perhaps....

Great tune overall, but it's the combo of the Southern Rock-style guitar fills and aux-perc that make it! Loving the extremely prominent cowbell & guiro! Deadly mix!!

Guiro! That's what that's called. I've always wondered. Need to get one of those. Nice tune!
