Lea

Something we recorded a bit more properly than we usually manage in the rehearsal room at the start of the year

Happy to be back. We've been playing a long time. Have been playing with a drummer for the past year or so, which makes such a difference rather than drum machines. This is heavy pop, confessional mode. Something to do with the police, Hasidic traditions, and a kid who, tragically drowned.

I'm sitting at the point where the kid went in
where the water grows wide and slow,
and the police wouldn't follow him,
don't think it's a canal 'cos the water's going down,
the river Lea's been canalated and it's flowing out of town.

And you said you'd thrown your sins in the water,
and you said you'd thrown them in the water for the year,
and you said you'd washed your bad away in the autumn
and you said that you thought I was trying, so near.

There's a makeshift shrine,
and my bike's leaned up,
against the railings, amidst the echos from the distant club,
sound travels across the marshes in a very strange way,
saw the boat people, peeling paint,
and felt the city's disarray

Chorus

In the end in the end,
it was all you wanted,
wasn't what you were looking for but baby now all the same,
in the end in the end,
it was all that was granted,
at the same time looking round for someone else to blame,
and....
