Going To Abilene

March 29, 2007 4:50 PM

I am re-uploading this song. I wrote it a while back and recorded last weekend. I'm just learning to record, so the guitars are a little quiet. Tips would be very welcome! I'm stoked I get to re-post, since I spelled "Abilene" wrong last time.

Finally I can hear this song. Now I see what all the fuzz is about. Congrats, pazazygeek, you have a lovely voice and the song is really nice. I hope it's not the last you'll post here. Welcome.

That's very good. Thank you.

It reminds me a soulful Kelly Willis or Susan Gibson tune. Your voice is very nice!

I'm a big fan of acoustic and understated orchestration. But there are a few parts that are a little too underwritten and barren. There are a couple parts where I'm not certain if the song ends due to long pauses. Tighten it up a little bit, and this is a very nice song.

Wow - thank you both so much for the excellent feedback! Dios - that's a great point. I was thinking of adding some piano in to help with that, but was concerned that it might be overkill, I'm really glad to hear your thoughts on that, I think I will try it.

Your voice is truly fantastic. Let me reiterate: fantastic. It’s a really good song too. I’m not sure what your recording equipment is, but I really hope you work on either getting more out of it or eventually upgrading to better gear. Your music is so worthy of it. Everything is sounding a bit muddy, and I suspect it’s that way because your microphone(s) are not great. You’re also getting some digital clipping on the vocal when your singing volume varies. This could be helped by recording through a compressor plugin that would even out your input volume. You are playing the guitar with skill and sensitivity, but the sound is muddy and some of the richness of it is lost. It could be improved through EQ.

But anyway… this is great, great stuff. Thanks!
