Anthem For An Ant Colony

In 1987, I wrote this cornball song from the POV of a proud and friendly ant, but never recorded it until now.
Anthem For An Ant Colony
Here we are living underground
One big family
Won't you come have a look around
At our ant colony?
I know there isn't much of a view
But that's OK
We'll build a tunnel just for you
If you'd like to stay.
The summers in the Peony Bush are fine
But there's no colony like mine!
I wish I could find some bubble gum
Like my Grandpa did -
We'd chew it together, out in the sun
And share with a Katy-did.
Mom's in the basement, watching her brood,
She thinks that life's a gas
We'll go to a picnic, sit in the food
And hide on a blade of grass.
CHORUS
Hail to our colony, one and all
From sea to shining sea
Here comes a kid with a basketball
I hope he won't hit...
-------------------About--------------
Funny similarities between the bug ditties. I like the contrast between the sweet, summery backing (that's a clav layered with a chorused elec. piano) and the "gross" subject matter. The track name and title differ because I couldn't decide which title was best.
I am having a horrible time recording vocals! This was done on a Zoom MRS-1044 using a nice MXL V57M condenser mic. I did many takes, trying different things (yes, phantom power was on, condenser on, levels peaking). Suggestions?
p.s. - Apologies if suggesting a category for which I already had a song is against the spirit of the challenge.

The vocal? I think that reverb is spread way too thick! Pushes your voice too far back and gives one the impression that you're singing through a layer of cotton or something.
And that basketball bit at the end is cute.

There's something about this I find quite hysterical. I think it's the simplicity of the lyrics and the sound of the electric piano, which produce a great comic effect. I imagine one of those guys who stands in front of instrument stores and demonstrates organs playing this, and it makes me smile.

The vocals sound pretty -- well, "underground," which is apropos, but maybe not what you were looking for. I don't know much about recording vocals, but what's your room like?
