Saint Voorhees
Quick and dirty lofi folk song. I think it has enough spooky themes to work for October. Lyrics in the fold. Kinda like the lyrics. [more inside]
Manhattan Skyline
Some recent discussion on MeFi about the band a-ha reminded me that I'd recorded this acoustic cover of one of their songs a long time ago. This is actually based on an arrangement by Kings of Convenience, who made some interesting changes to the original song structure. Me on vocals and guitars (nylon-string and steel-string). Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child
A quick and scarcely rehearsed lofi recording of my take on the classic folk standard/gospel/African American spiritual, with an overdubbed chorus and acoustic guitar.
The Leaving of Liverpool
I had a great time collaborating with billiebee on a cover of this traditional folk song/sea shanty. The goal was to record a simple arrangement that was different from the more lively covers out there -- to borrow billiebee's phrase, a gentler version. I'm hoping our rendition highlights the lovely melody of the song. [more inside]
Thoughts in B-flat
In the past couple of weeks, I found myself going back to a piece that I'd started working on a few years ago -- probably because it's in a slower triple meter that's somewhat calming for me. This is a condensed one-minute version, featuring piano and guitar, for the 60 Seconds and Under #2 MeFi Music Challenge. [more inside]
Black Rabbit
A friend of mine lost her pet black rabbit recently. A conversation about it led to me digging out this old (c. 2007?) recording. [more inside]
Balkanofellini
If you are anything like me, you sit in awe during all the 'musical moments' laced throughout any Fellini film (music composed by Nino Rota). Combine that with the unexplainable excitement during those lively Balkan snippets of any memorable scene of most Emir Kusturica films… that is what this song feels like… to me anyways.
Your Little One Way Street
Once again it's the Tomato Can Sanza (run through my trusty el-cheapo pitch shifter) in action, in another tune from my set at the 2010 Sengawa Jazz/Art Festival in Tokyo. Video at YouTube. [more inside]

Napoleonic blues - second song posted
A song I wrote the lyrics for and worked up the melody and progression with the band. Me on ukulele, Jamie singing and on glockenspiel, Justin on guitar, Ella on cello, Tina hitting a a tin. This was recorded before Christmas, again not the most beautiful of recording quality but it gives you a sense of the band's fuller sound with the cello.
Any feedback or critique appreciated as always.

Halloween 97/98
Little ditty about young love, the joys of suburban Massachusetts in autumn, and the allure of all those wonderful things behind the counter at drugstores. [more inside]
The Bottom Falls Out of the Clouds (demoriffic version)
cortex was kind enough to let me borrow the lyrics from his song "The Bottom Falls Out of the Clouds" (which he wrote for the first ever MeFi Music Challenge), and allow me to set them to new folky/acoustic/lo-fi music for this month's challenge. [more inside]
8 More Miles to Louisville
More "americana" from that woodshed in Sweden.
Recorded on a battered radio/cassette player in 1984(?) so its low fi.
We called ourselves The Early Puritans on the occasions we actually got paid for a gig. [more inside]
More Songs About Oven Mitts
This is a song about a decommissioned Killbot, forced to work in a kitchen baking and whatnot. He is pretty angry about it. [more inside]
