November Music Challenge: 60 Seconds and Under #2

October 31, 2016 8:53 AM

A short and sweet challenge in preparation for the longer December/January one - this November, keep it short and sweet.

Last time we did this, there were some SUPER clever submissions and can you believe that was THREE YEARS AGO?

I mean, clearly the time is passing faster these days so lets not waste any, and create tiny masterpieces that mean the casual passer-by can peruse the entire Music front page within their lunchbreak.

Upload your 60-second piece before December 1st if possible, and don't forget to tag it MeFiMusicChallenge and 60seconds.

Got this posted on the challenge page!

Of which, procedural note: since it's using the same "60seconds" tag, the entries from the last time will be in that playlist too. Which isn't a problem, unless it is! I could go either way. So if there's a desire to cleanly separate the two, we could go with a modified tag on this one, but we could also say "nah, it's fine!" and run with the default.

Lets leave it - kinda nice to have them all together :)

Thanks Cortex!

I always say I'll have a go at these intentionally-inclusive, hum-as-you-are challenges and I always flop at the final hurdle. Will def give this one a go or at least give the other entries a listen.

Will you accept covers for this one?

Absolutely! I am very excited about the idea of a 60-second cover.

Thank you, greenish. I'm in. I need to do this, especially with this week, and me posting in here will encourage me to finish.

Maybe we can do a collaboration challenge next time? Or if anyone wants to collaborate in general (not necessarily for a challenge), please feel free to let me know.

On May 18, 1986, Doctor Demento did an amazing show featuring "Minute-ures" - songs coming in at about a minute or less - I happened to record the show that night and the depth and breadth of that playlist had a profound and lasting impact on my evolving 11-year old musical tastes. After this shittiest of weeks I'm in no condition to commit to the challenge myself, but I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

I leave you with this gem by Barry and the Bookbinders.

Hard to believe I'm saying this, but I actually recorded something for the challenge, and it clocks in at exactly a minute. Apparently I'm really good at distracting myself from Real Life by delving into music. If I have the time I'll add another track to it, otherwise it'll be solo guitar.

I also finally finished a mixdown for the MeFi November 2013 challenge. Yes my friends, that is 2013. Three years after the deadline -- is that a record? Finally I'll be able to grant a MeFite's request from the Request Raffle. Would it be okay to give it the challenge tags, or should I just submit it as a separate thing?

Oh MAN yes use those tags baby and lets hear it. Oh and I just looked at what your draw in the raffle was... even more looking forward to it.

Two challenge submissions for the price of one, today is a good day.

Mine's in, a weird stew of anger and peppiness I put together this afternoon: Everything Is Fucked (Keep On Going). Music challenge was sort of the perfect kick in the ass on this because I've been despairing of putting together a coherent longer song that wasn't a dirge. 30 bars at 120 bpm in 4/4 makes the math simple.

Just posted mine! It isn't new - it is from my long-suffering 52 weeks project - but there was never a more appropriate venue for the 12-second ditty.

Oh my goodness an embarrassment of riches, I just got back online after a few days off sick, I can't wait to catch up with these.

Yay everyone! It's been great listening to your entries. And here's my submission for this month's challenge. I wish I had more time to do a better mixdown, but I'd rather post it now than fiddle around with it more and probably miss the deadline.

greenish, hope you're feeling much better!

December 1 is still sort of Novemberish, right?

Argh! I'm such a nob-end for not following through again (although I did just rediscover my 60 seconds #1 submission and laugh like a drain at myself). In any case, there are too many Napalm Death and A.C. (ahem!) songs left uncovered in this world, graah! Will check out some successful submissions right about now. I do love you MeFi Music, fickle and inconstant though I be.
