Tiny House

April 11, 2007 6:34 PM

Half inspired by a Chuck Palahniuk book I read in high school, half inspired by an overabundance of free time. My last song was 50 seconds long, this one clocks in at over 6 minutes (you know, to balance things out). And for those of you playing along at home, you'll be happy to know I'm kicking mono's ass.

Tiny tubes of glue littering my floor
In my tweezers I grasp a miniature drawer
Magnifying glass held close to my face
With great care I slide the drawer into its place

I am building a very tiny house
No one will live there
It's way too small
and I have a lot of free time

Tiny shingles held on by tiny tacks
Tiny closets for tiny shirts and slacks
Tiny bathrooms with tiny curtains, too
(Making tiny lightbulbs is very hard to do)

I am building a very tiny house
No one will live there
It's way too small
and I have a lot of free time

I know idle hands
are the playthings of
the Devil so I
keep mine occupied
all the time

And I will keep Satan far away
And I will fill each second of the day
And I will keep Satan far away
And I will fill each second of the day
And I will keep Satan far away
And I will fill each second of the day

I am building a very tiny house
No one will live there
It's way too small
and I have a lot of free time

...

And as per the usual, allow me to point out my website at Dave Makes Music dot com. Thanks.

I was gonna say mono has turned you (as a singer) into me, but then I got to the "and I will..." harmonies and now I gotta say even with mono you totally kick my ass singing.

Well, if mono has you writing a song every other day it won't be a completely negative thing, no?

I like the idea of this quite a lot, and the voice is idiosyncratic in a good way. I like the minimalism too, though I would like it to be embellished just a little.

LOVE the way you belt it out in a choir of yourself. That build-up is great.

Man this is so good! Reminds me a bit of Nick Cave's 'Into My Arms'. I really love the sparsity of the whole thing!
