Assasins Never Cry (rough mix)

January 26, 2008 3:19 PM

There are 22 James Bond movies (counting the one in production), but there should be more. And these additional nonexistent ones need theme songs. We in Derailleur have taken it upon ourselves to provide the theme songs, hoping the movies will catch up with us.

The mix'll be refined later, but I'm excited about the broad outlines here. The whole thing grew out of me poking around with a junky old organ someone dragged into our practice space; the keyboard riff grew into a song, which grew into a concept EP, and, well, assasins never cry, now, do they?

Even though this grew out of the organ riff, I'm not sure it fits. It seems to hang together well once the song gets going, but in the intro it sounds off to me. However, the guitar, bass and drums sound really good and the vocal delivery is fantastic. It's got a great swagger to it.

Thanks-- and yeah, I think we're going to need to clean up the organ in the intro, too; we found out too late that something was goofy with the count-in on the drum track, and had a hell of a time synching the organ up with everything else. I've gotten to the point where I have trouble judging it anymore because I've heard so many attempts to patch it up that it all gets lost, so it's good to get an outside opinion on it.

Kill! Kill! Kill!

Yeah, the intro is wonky, but it sounds fine when it's all going.

It is easy to imagine that you guys are from Sweden and wear matching suits.

We're from Minneapolis and wear similar sweatshirts... is that close enough?

It'll do in a pinch.
