A Song In Need Of Lyrics

August 8, 2008 3:19 AM

Jumping in on Mediocre's thread asking for songs in need of lyrics, here's one. Recorded this quite a long time ago and never came up with any words. Listening back it sounds to me a bit like a cross between early 70's Beach Boys and "Your Mother Should Know" if that makes any sense.

Now, I know mediocre is the hot news around these parts lately, but that was BrnP84 's MeTa thread. Let's get our facts straight! :)

My mistake! Sorry about that.

gfrobe, this is terrific. I envy your ability to nail those harmonies, and really like the way you put together a chord progression.

Please post more! I just went back to listen to your other songs, and they're all amazing.

I find it really difficult to completely match melodies when writing lyrics; otherwise the words just come out as nonsensical syllables that I can't sell in the singing of them (which, if you ask me, is the key).

I would offer to take a crack at writing lyrics to this if you could post it without the singing parts, using this one as a basis for the melody. It would probably differ on the melody in parts so I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

Thanks for comments umbu. Don't really have much more other than a few snippets but will post more if I come up with anything. I've never been able to finish songs and that's always been a real frustration.

Dobie, wish I could post just the music but no longer have a midi keyboard hooked up to computer so can't re-record it. Thanks for the offer though.

Weirdly, I actually love this song without the lyrics. Sometimes a series of "doo doo doos" are all a song really needs.

Beach Boys + Your Mother Should Know + Elliot Smith. This is pretty lovely, thanks.

The song meanders too much for a conventional lyric. To my ear, it strongly evokes a story, maybe like Simon and Garfunkle?
